“Rudolph reinvents world music for sophisticated listeners…he fuses many world musics into a very artful, and keenly constructed debut” -EAR magazine

Composer and master hand drummer Adam Rudolph has been pioneering new sounds in jazz and world music for decades.  Back by popular demand with Moving Pictures, Rudolph’s large ensemble that embraces musical forms, languages, instrumentation, and cosmologies of Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and the African Diaspora.  His compositions display unusual relationships that culminate into wildly imaginative and unexpected sonic universes.  Yusef Lateef, Sam Rivers, Pharoah Sanders, Don Cherry, Foday Musa Suso and Hassan Hakmoun are a few of his many collaborators, who have informed his broad aesthetic.  The concert will feature his 2009 Chamber Music America commissioned work, “Yeyi Suite” and other original compositions.  Moving Pictures features Adam Rudolph, Joseph Bowie, Graham Haynes, Ralph Jones, Jerome Harris, Brahim Fribgane, Kenny Wessel and Matt Kilmer.

This concert is fully funded by Chamber Music America’s Presenting Jazz Program, a component of the Doris Duke Jazz Ensembles Project, and is made possible by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.
