Gesel Mason’s stamina is outmatched only by her versatility in this evening-length solo performance that links a suite of pieces choreographed by the nation’s leading African-American dance artists, including Bebe Miller, Donald McKayle, Reggie Wilson, Andrea Woods, David Roussève, and Jawole Willa Jo Zollar. Mason demonstrates the breadth and depth of contemporary African-American dance, contesting the notion that black cultural expression comprises solely African ritual, gospel music or the popularized dance forms of Alvin Ailey.
