Artists of the City Awards Benefit 2008After 39 seasons of presenting emerging and established innovators on stage and gallery walls, Painted Bride Art Center took a moment to celebrate three Philadelphia-based arts leaders who have made lasting contributions off the stage to our city’s larger cultural landscape. On Sunday, June 1st, 2008, Painted Bride launched its first annual Artists of the City Awards benefit. Hosted by WXPN’s Michaela Majoun, the event provided an opportunity for the Bride community to honor the living legacies of the awardees and to engage with them personally at an intimate reception. Musical entertainment, eclectic food and drink, as well as a silent auction and raffle preceded the award ceremony. Thank you to everyone who helped make the event a success - raising $3,000 more than expected.
2008 Artists of the City Awardees:
Germaine Ingram for preserving and advancing Philadelphia’s rich contributions to tap as a dancer, choreographer, and longtime cultural leader with the Philadelphia Folklore Project
Moe Brooker for his esteemed career as visual artist and his deep commitment to cultural leadership in the city
Jesse Bermudez, founder and president of Artistas y Musicos Latino Americanos (AMLA), for championing and creating opportunities for Latino musicians and artists

Save the Date! Artists of the City 2009 will be held on June 7.
