The history of Black Philadelphians in classical ballet dates back to the early 1930’s. In this in-depth panel discussion, dance icons Joan Myers Brown of Philadanco and Delores Browne of The New York Negro Ballet recount the early years as dancers. From training with trailblazers like Sydney King and Marion Cuyjet, to studying with World renown English choreographer Anthony Tudor, their stories are a master class on ballet, blackness, and how they intersect here in Philadelphia. Accompanying this illuminating talk will be a visual exhibit of portraiture by Eva Mueller.
