“What are you?”
The subjects featured in (1)ne Drop: Shifting the Lens on Race all have been asked this question. Why? Because they don’t necessarily fit into the “Black box”—dark skin, “kinky” hair, broad nose, full lips, so on and so forth. Using the feelings, opinions and perspectives of a variety of people of African descent from across the Diaspora through simple portraiture, Blay challenges narrow perceptions of Blackness as both an identity and a lived reality.
