The BrideNext initiative culminates with an event showcasing powerful poetic art and pointed advocacy. Two performances by two artists, both exploring the intersections of artistry and activism.

ILL DOOTS“Existence, Resistance and the Sounds of Surroundings” is a multimedia concert that uses music to amplify the stories, grievances, and desires of the neighborhood residents surrounding the ever-expanding Temple University. The sonic material for this production is all sourced directly from conversations and workshops with individuals, community organizations, and Temple University alike about the effects of and how to resist the displacement and cultural erasure that comes alongside gentrification. http://www.oldefreakwhenseas.net/

Belle Alvarez, through the performance of
“Ageless Dream: Historias Nuestras” threads together memories of home, journeys across national borders, and questions around the American crisis of immigration. In partnership with Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture, Aquinas Center, and New Sanctuary Movement, Belle facilitates dialogue rooted in movement among migrant communities and allies.

This work was supported by a Building Demand for the Arts Implementation grant from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.
