The new Philadelphia-based company, which is committed to using the personal experiences of its artists to combat social issues surrounding abuse, inequality, spirituality, etc. Noted for performances that are “inventive, well conceived and crafted” according to the Harlem World Online, DANCE IQUAIL! (DIQ) will present a program of works performed by the company’s 7 dancers who excel both technically and dramatically, several with Philadelphia connections. The night will feature 3 premieres choreographed by Iquail Shaheed (DIQ Artistic Director), and Christopher Ralph (an emerging New York City-based choreographer). Highlights include: Still With Me (2007), a full company work set to the music of Balanescu Quartet and dedicated to the life and work of the late African-American author E. Lynn Harris. Song of The Sacred (2010), a full company work, set to an original score by composer Dylan Ezzie, exploring various plights that humans face while seeking salvation and addressing specific religious perils including depravity, homosexuality, self-indulgence, molestation, and repentance. The program will also include: Night Falls (2010), the smash-hit solo set to music of the same title by Booka Shade, and, For You (2010), created as a surprise for an unsung hero in Philadelphia’s Dance Community, whose tirelessly service to youth spans over 4 decades.
