Filmmaker Kobie Brown will be in person for what promises to be an amazing discussion.

Produced and Directed by Kobie Brown, “From Fatherless Fatherhood” was created to turn the corner on father absence one story at a time.

While there are some luminaries featured – Kirk Franklin, Dr. Steve Perry (CNN), Music Executive Jeff Robinson, and Reverend DeForest “Buster” Soaries (CNN) – the documentary is rooted in the lives of men, women and children dealing with the challenges of father absence, and provides examples of men who are fostering quality relationships with their children, families and therefore, our community. Brown created this documentary to stimulate honest conversation about the topic, ultimately providing a gateway for communities to place fatherhood back at the top of their values chart.

The Painted Bride Art Center, along with WURD Radio and ReelBlack, will host the first Philadelphia screening and discussion of From Fatherless to Fatherhood, which was shown earlier this year at the Martha’s Vineyard African-American Film Festival and was also recently featured on CNN.

Director Kobie Brown says that he ultimately wanted to show a positive image of manhood and fatherhood in this documentary.  “We have to begin to take transformative action towards correcting the fractures in our community, and I believe that talking productively about fathers is a vital part of the work we need to do,” he says.

“From Fatherless to Fatherhood” was produced by The Kobie Chronicles through Perfecting Purpose, Inc., a non-profit organization.
