Perô, or the Mysteries of the Night
is coming to delight the children and families of Greater Philadelphia for
just 4 performances in May!
May 19 – 21, 2011
featuring Speeltheater Holland, acclaimed troupe from the Netherlands
For 4 performances at the Painted Bride, this lively and charming
family-friendly show from Holland features music, puppets, humor and
romance. Bashful baker Perô has a secret love for laundress Colombina, but
she is captivated by colorful house painter Palentino. Will Perô tell
Colombina of his love? Will the village run out of bread because Perô is too
sad to bake?
Young children will enjoy the puppet story; older audiences will delight in
the wit and humor. This charming musical play sings a story of love while
contrasting night and day, and bashful and bold. Perô or the Mysteries of
the Night is performed in English and features actor/singers, puppets, live
music, and is recommended for all ages, especially six years and older.
Perô, or the mysteries of the night is based on Pierrot ou les secrets de la
nuit, a children’s book written by the French author/philosopher Michel
Tournier (Editions Gallimard). The stage adaptation is by Guus Ponsioen, and
English language translation is by Rina Vergano.
