xST / Shawn Theodore Artist Statement:
My photography is a personal reinterpretation of African American existential philosophy (my moniker ‘xST’ which is said as ‘exist’ references this) and serves as a source of affirming, empowering images of everyday Black people to challenge preconceived stereotypes in popular culture. I began shooting street photography in 2008 in NYC, Baltimore, Oakland, Camden, and Philadelphia. I began with photoreportage, yet my vision has evolved over the past 4 years into a more artistically driven expression of street and studio photography techniques.I attended Tyler School of Art with a concentration on Fine Art, and I graduated from Temple University with a degree in Journalism, PR and Advertising.
