Formed by Jymie Merritt in 1962, the Forerunners are a Philadelphia band that uses mathematics rather than imitation as a tool for gaining access to and exploring the energies of the historical forces of jazz music, the pioneers of jazz to whom the term “forerunner” pays tribute. The Forerunners are now led by Jymie’s son, bassist Mike Merritt. Mike has been a member of late-night TV host Conan O’Brien’s band since 1993 and has worked with an impressive group of artists including Levon Helm, Phoebe Snow, Bruce Springsteen, Joan Osborne and many more.
