Summary
The Painted Bride Art Center seeks an imaginative and engaging Communications & Marketing Manager with strong interpersonal skills, who will work closely with an intimate and growing team to advance and reinforce the mission, vision and evolving identity of the organization, while deepening audience engagement, storytelling, digital footprint and outreach.
The Communications & Marketing Manager serves as the primary voice of the organization for narrative shaping and external communication to the public, artists, key stakeholders and partners. They will lead the mobilization of various digital and in-person marketing approaches including press releases, interviews, social media, graphic design, website and newsletter.
The ideal candidate is a self-driven adaptive professional excited to build something new, with an appetite for emerging practices as well as proven efficacy in field-related standards. They work well in a rigorous communal environment and are culturally competent with a record of positive engagement with intergenerational communities in and outside of the arts, across and beyond Philadelphia.
Role Overview
- Strategy Development:
Crafting comprehensive communication plans aligned with organization goals, including identifying target audiences and key messaging. - Content Creation:
Writing and editing various communication materials like press releases, blog posts, website copy, newsletters, social media updates, and marketing materials. - Media Relations:
Building and maintaining relationships with journalists and media outlets, proactively pitching stories, and managing press inquiries. - Crisis Communications:
Developing crisis communication plans and managing responses to negative publicity or emergencies. - Internal Communications:
Communicating company updates, initiatives, and policies to employees through various channels like internal newsletters, all staff or department-specific emails. - Brand Management:
Ensuring consistency in brand messaging across all communication channels. - Social Media Management:
Overseeing the Bride’s social media presence, creating engaging content, and monitoring online conversations. - Metrics and Analysis:
Tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of communication campaigns, event ticketing and attendance and making adjustments as needed. - Stakeholder Engagement:
Building relationships with key stakeholders, including board members, staff, artists, partners, investors, and community leaders.

Detailed Responsibilities
- Ability to create and direct eye-catching, industry-standard graphics and messaging that reinforce the organization’s unique and evolving brand
- Experience with written and visual content creation and editing
- Ability to tailor communications to specific and general audiences
- Transparent in working style and clear internal communication
- Ability to take initiative and to set and lead meetings as needed
- Strong understanding of media landscape and digital communications
- Proven ability to develop and execute strategic communication plans according to emerging needs
- Developing and executing the Bride’s internal and external communication strategy
- Overseeing the creation and distribution of messaging and responsiveness across various channels like social media, websites, press releases, POS/ticketing systems and newsletters
- Promoting the organization’s brand, products and services while maintaining a consistent image
- Acting as the primary voice of the organization to key stakeholders and managing media relations
- Develop and implement marketing and communications plans for individual projects with the goal of deepening audience engagement, with the input and support of the Executive and Deputy Director, key staff and the Programming Committee, including executing brand and style guide, generating and refining relevant content.
- Manage all project and program-related media and press relations, and project managing marketing execution with our external consultant, who manages our social media and website
- Attend and support Programming Meetings by engaging with questions and input that will support the process and inform your work and timelines. Take concise notes and recap actionable next steps verbally and in writing.
- Work with Program and Production Manager to create shared timelines, content and tasks for the cohesive and timely production and marketing of events and residencies and collection of important information for grant reporting, audience evaluation and overall program/project analysis and assessment.
- Create and implement concise documents to support a smooth and transparent collaborative process with staff and creative stakeholders.
- Work in collaboration with the Executive Director and Deputy Director to set our path forward while continuing to center our vision and mission
- Develop and execute strategies for expanding our networks of community partners, building ongoing meaningful connections that reach more artists, locally and nationally and globally with the input and support of relevant parties.
- Undertake key directives such as seasonal marketing campaigns and institutional priorities, including live social media coverage at institutional events when needed
- Support the Executive Director in language for institutional and individual fundraising, particularly around messaging
- Coach Bride staff, board, programming committee members, and other relevant volunteers in “speaking in one voice,” clearly articulating the values and vision of the Bride
- Evaluate impact through determining and analyzing marketing metrics; prepare and present monthly reports on communications, marketing, and partnerships for the Executive Director and Board
- Manage corporate sponsorships, including developing sponsorship package and outreach strategy, leaving outreach, and managing relationships and sponsorship deliverables
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 4+ years of communications experience in the arts and/or community-centered work, including a familiarity with digital marketing, community engagement, and best practices for campaigns ranging from single-instance and community-centered programs to large-scaled projects over a sustained period
- B.A. or commensurate degree
- Superior copy editing skills
- Ability to create, resize or edit images according to social media, website and newsletter formats.
- Ability to organize and present information in an engaging, clear and comprehensive manner
- Reasonable understanding of “fair use” images and royalty free music
- Experience with visual design, POS, newsletter and social media-relevant software (i.e. Canva, Ticketleap, Wordfly)
- Excellent Social Media skills with adaptability to emerging platforms
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
- Comprehensive knowledge of G-suite and its corresponding applications.
Comfortability with Microsoft Word and its corresponding applications. - Proficiency with Zoom and Google Meet and Slack

Physical Demands:
Ability to work on a computer or laptop, including sitting at a desk or table for extended periods of time; manual dexterity to operate a keyboard; able to see or read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; able to speak clearly and in audible tones on the phone and in-person and be understood by others; able to hear and understand speech, including on the phone; able to understand and follow oral and written instructions; able to occasionally lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds. May be asked to travel out of state.
Compensation, Benefits, Job Type:
- Full-time salaried position at 40 hours a week (flexible hours contingent on current projects)
- Remote and In-person hybrid position with attendance to events throughout the city.
- Based on the nature of the position, some evenings and weekends are required.
- Bulk of job functions are primarily indoors with some outdoor venues
