Dr. Bruce Campbell Jr. (DJ Junior)
As part of Painted Bride’s commitment to amplifying fearless voices and honoring jazz and Black music as a living archive of resilience, resistance, and renewal, we are proud to welcome Dr. Bruce Campbell Jr. (DJ Junior) as both a panelist and featured curator-DJ for the Anthony Tidd Quite Sane celebration.
A Philadelphia-based scholar, record label owner, radio host, and DJ, Campbell bridges the worlds of education, music, and social justice. As DJ Junior, he founded Record Breakin’ Music (RBM), a boutique record label dedicated to releasing music rooted in a soulful foundation. He is also the co-host of Eavesdrop Radio on WKDU 91.7FM, a fixture in Philadelphia’s music scene for more than 20 years, offering a dynamic mix of jazz, soul, hip-hop, Latin grooves, and Afrobeat. His Dust + Dignity podcast extends that mission, exploring the intersection of music, leadership, and social justice.
Internationally active as a DJ, Junior’s sets reflect the same spirit of diversity and depth found in his broadcasts. His curatorial voice blends scholarship with groove, creating spaces where community, culture, and sound converge.
As Dr. Campbell, he serves as Senior Fellow and Director of the Mid-Career Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership at the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education. His research and teaching focus on diversity, equity, social justice, and organizational change, centering the experiences of underrepresented groups while equipping institutions and leaders to better serve their communities.
Whether behind the lectern, the mic, or the turntables, Dr. Campbell—DJ Junior—embodies the Bride’s spirit of connecting past and present, bridging education and art, and using culture as a force for transformation.
