Pamela Hooks
Pamela Hooks is the lead artist of Voices of 52nd Street: Then & Now, a multi-year community archive and storytelling initiative produced with the Painted Bride Art Center. A West Philadelphia native, Hooks is a multimedia social change artist who uses film, performance, and community dialogue to preserve cultural memory and spark transformation.
Her early work in broadcast television earned recognition from the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters and the American Women in Radio and Television. Over her career, she has produced award-winning media projects on HIV prevention, restorative justice, mental health, and cultural preservation. Her collaborations with the Bride include the groundbreaking Tenderheaded Diaries (2001) and Optical Illusions of a Happy Black Woman (2005).
With Voices of 52nd Street, Hooks brings her artistry back home—uplifting the foodways, music, activism, and stories of a corridor that continues to shape West Philadelphia’s cultural heartbeat.
