So where has this “BLOCK to BLOCK” journey/adventure taken us so far?
As with any project…building momentum takes time, attention, intention and effort. After assembling the Gtown dream team of about 8 neighbors, artists, friends and community builders…we all circled up in late November…at neighborhood fave and BLOCK to BLOCK headquarters…Germantown Espresso…for our initial planning, purpose and mission meetings.
We hashed out the key concerns/needs/desires/objectives…
Documenting. Lamenting. Commiserating. Celebrating. Generating. Regenerating. Recording. Response Creating. Elevating. Space Making. Protesting. Sharing.
A long…but not even comprehensive…list.
As gentrification seemingly bulldozes and changes what we all hold so precious and dear…our beloved Germantown…we are forging our own paths…and holding our own places.
Taking Sunday walks together down Germantown Avenue…thru side streets…and unique nooks and crannies…feeling, archiving and discussing…the history, mystery and impending changeability…of this place/space/community/hood…we all proudly and loudly call HOME.
In fact…that is what we plan to do…visibly and publicly discuss…the history, mystery and impending changeability…of this place/space/community/hood…we all proudly and loudly call HOME.
The culmination of this project/(movement)…will see us…take to the streets and spots where we feel we need to let it be known that…
We.Are.Still.Here.
We plan to…busk, create public art and invite others to join in and form…either a united front…or a welcoming committee…whichever is most effective and applicable.
We will take our soundbytes, songs, snapshots and many storied stories…to the people. For the people. The people who Love, Live in AND Respect Germantown.
WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED.
