Carving Words is poetry workshop & open mic for Disabled, Sick, neurodivergent, and MAD people in Philadelphia.
This is the opening event of Undue Burden (Oct. 19 – Nov. 23, 2024), a community archive and event series celebrating the experiences of Disabled people. This event is also presented as part of the 25th anniversary of Philadelphia Open Studio Tours (POST), a series of free, public tours of artist studios in the city.
Event Schedule
12-2pm: Ribbon Poetry Workshop
The celebration will open with a drop-in workshop on short form poetry. We will be discussing examples and creating our own, written on ribbon, to pin to an installation that will live in the space through November. Come help us decorate, celebrate, and tie your words back into the living archive. Workshop will be facilitated by Cris Iacoponi (they/them).
3-4pm: Poet Performances
Performances by poets Pam Price, Deej Mccoy, Tyreike Taiku, and Cris Iacoponi, with visual/text accompaniment. There will be areas to sit, stand, and lay in the audience.

There will be an open mic after the performances. Attendees can sign up at the event.
