Join us for an electrifying celebration and performance of Hiruy Tirfe’s newest release, 10,000 Hours, with opener Kayla “Black Buttafly” Childs.

10,000 Hours is a spellbinding fusion of soulful rhythms and spirituality, drawing inspiration from jazz legends like John Coltrane, Kenny Garrett, Freddie Hubbard, Ornette Coleman, and The Roots. Tirfe infuses every note with his own life experiences, creating a performance that transcends both personal and musical realms.

This event is part of Painted Bride’s Jazz on Market event series.

Hiruy Tirfe is a musician/saxophonist from Philadelphia, PA. Tirfe had amazing opportunities to work with artists of all genres of music including The Roots, H.E.R, Solange Knowles, Patti LaBelle, Wycelf Jean, Robin Eubanks, Bilal and many other artists. Upon graduating The University Of The Arts with both his bachelors and masters degrees (2017 & 2018 respectively), Tirfe began working heavily as an educator and professional musician performing at venues such as Radio City Music Hall, Made In America Festival, AfroPunk Festival, NFL Draft, Monterey Jazz Festival, John F. Kennedy Center, NPR Tiny Desk Series, to name a few. When Tirfe isn’t on the stage, he is in the studio working with various producers and artists for numerous projects including GRAMMY Nominated Records (Tye Tribbett; All Things New), 2020 Grammy Awards Soundtrack, 2021 Academy Awards/Oscars Soundtrack, Hallmark Film “A Nashville Legacy” and many other projects that you can hear on records as well as on television. Tirfe self-released debut record “10,000 Hours” is set to release this month.

Kayla Childs, also known as “Black Buttafly”, is a 27 year old New Jersey native hailing from New Brunswick, New Jersey. Her roots are in Gospel, Jazz, and Soul music and her influences include Patrice Rushen, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, J Dilla. Kayla started playing music at the young age of 5 years old. Just playing by ear and listening to the music shared in her household and church, she picked up the piano and used it as a tool to share with the world. She is also a singer-songwriter, artist, and producer currently living and playing in Philadelphia, PA.

Since leaving Rutgers-Camden, Kayla has traveled the Across the U.S. and Europe touring professionally. She has played, studied, and recorded with artists Ms. Lauryn Hill, Pete Rock, Lenny White, KeiyaA, RES, Son Little, Khemist, Ivy Sole, Orion Sun, Duendita, Hannibal Burress & Grammy Award Winning Artist, Jermaine Holmes. Kayla has had the opportunity to perform and share her own music under the Moniker “Black Buttafly” opening for Braxton Cook (Milkboy), Meshelle Ndegeocello (Ardmore Music Hall), Cisco Swank (World Cafe Live), and Kiefer (World Cafe Live). She is also a member of Tri-State area musical collectives Omar’s Hat and UPENDO and has written and produced music for both groups. Kayla is an inspiring artist looking to unapologetically impact the world through her soulful sounds and vulnerable vibes with the help of community, strong beliefs, and teachings.
