Painted Bride Jazz Presents: Satellite Sound Featuring Josh Lawrence Quintet: Still We Dream

We’re proud to host our Spring Jazz Series, featuring three outstanding artists in collaboration with two vibrant local venues- Black Squirrel Club in Fishtown and The Fallser Club in East Falls. The series is co-presented by J. Michael Harrison, host of The Bridge on WRTI.

Renowned trumpeter, composer, bandleader, and recording artist, Josh Lawrence will bring his dynamic ensemble to the stage, featuring Willie Morris III on tenor saxophone, Orrin Evans on piano, Nimrod Speaks on bass, and Mekhi Boone on drums. The group will perform selections from their latest Posi-Tone Records release, Still We Dream, offering original arrangements of works by jazz icon Thelonious Monk, classical master Frédéric Chopin, and legendary trumpeter J.B. Arbans. This bold and imaginative quintet showcases a seamless fusion of tradition and innovation, highlighting each musician’s exceptional artistry.

As a solo artist, Lawrence has released five acclaimed albums on Posi-Tone Records and co-led two with the Fresh Cut Orchestra on Ropeadope Records. A three-time Grammy nominee, his recent nominations include work with Orrin Evans’ Captain Black Big Band (Smoke Sessions Records) and Adam Blackstone’s Legacy (The Instrumental Jawn). Known for his remarkable versatility, Lawrence has contributed to recordings by a wide array of artists, including Erykah Badu, Boyz II Men, Jazmine Sullivan, Laurin Talese, Brian Marsella, Lizanne Knott, Matt Davis’ Aerial Photograph, and Tarbaby, among others.
