Jesse Bermudez and Siempre Salsa Philly Honor Salsa Legends at Painted Bride this July

We here at the Painted Bride Art Center are pleased to once again partner with Siempre Salsa Philly for its summer week of celebration. This year, we are co-presenting the Siempre Salsa Philly Pioneer Awards Party on July 8th (Jesse Bermudez Day) at 8pm.

2015 was the first year that Siempre Salsa Philly Week was established as Philly’s official celebration of salsa music. Since then, every year in July Siempre Salsa Philly hosts a slew of city-wide events to attract new, diverse audiences to Philly’s burgeoning salsa music scene. Now a staple of Philadelphia’s arts and cultural sector, Siempre Salsa Week is the city’s most expansive celebration of salsa.

Among the various events scheduled for this year’s Siempre Salsa Philly is the first annual Siempre Salsa Philly Pioneer Awards to be hosted at Painted Bride. Jesse Bermudez will use his holiday to honor and celebrate three important figures in salsa music: Mino Cruz (Orquesta La Opinión), Victor Aday (Orquesta La Paz) and Elba “Candy” Dormoi (Panama y su Ritmo Caliente).

The awards ceremony will be followed by a Salsa Caliente style evening of salsa dancing and live music. Salsa lessons will be led by Maestro Flaco of Flaco’s Dance Factory, and then Latin big band Papo Gely and the Salsa Jazz will provide the groove.
