Well, the season is about to begin! September has a little something for everyone:

Like visual arts? We’ll be kicking of the season with a First Friday reception on Friday September 7th forPapeles: Are we what we sign? Co-presented by Accion Colombia, our guest curator Andreina Castillo has brought together thirteen artists to explore our social bond with papers as legal signifiers of identity that shape individual mobility, cultural acceptance, gender and sexual-orientation equality, economic access, labor opportunities, and educational attainment. Join us on Friday from 5 to 7:30 for the opening of the exhibit. We’ll have free beer from Flying Fish Brewing Co and free food from Positano Coast!

Our official season opener concert is THIS SUNDAY at 7pm. Fort Apache leader Jerry Gonzalez will be bringing his ensemble El Comando de la Clave with a brand new Afro-Cuban/Flamenco project. Rather than explain to you what they do I’ll show you:

Like dance? We are happy to welcome back Philadanco with their annual Danco on Danco concert on Friday, September 14th. It is our privilege to showcase the company’s apprentices on our stage. We look forward to the day when these young dancers return to us in the future dancing professionally for Philadanco and with their own companies. There will be just one night of the Danco concert this season so get your tickets early.

Like music? Brace yourself. New York’s Burnt Sugar [the Arkestra Chamber] will be making it funky (in a good way) at the Bride on Friday, September 28th. Inspired by the music of James Brown and Miles Davis this 13-piece conductor led orchestra is one of our most anticipated concerts of the season. To make the evening even more fun we’ll be having pre-show Quizzo at 6:30 w/ host Jonny Q. Think you know the ‘Godfather of Cool/Electro’ and the ‘Godfather of Soul/Funk’? Bring your team for a chance at a $100 cash prize and a bag of Bride swag! No ticket – no quizzo, so get your tickets now.
