Movement of Mothers dance workshop
*Note: Be sure to join the free Swap Market after, from 1-3PM!*
Movement of Mothers project welcomes anyone who identifies as a mother to participate in a dance storytelling workshop inviting connection through a story circle, which is brought to life by movement. Storytelling will wrap up with time to connect with each other and share resources. No dance experience necessary and children are welcome. Mothers, this space is made just for you!
Please note we use an expanded definition of “mother”, you do not need to identify as a woman, birthing person, or currently have children to participate. We have adopted Alexis Pauline Gumbs’ perspective on mothering as “practice of creating, nurturing, affirming and supporting life”.
Dance Storytelling workshop is facilitated by Valerie Ifill who has been offering dance programming in West Philadelphia for the last decade. Valerie is an Assistant Dance Professor at Drexel University.
The Resource-sharing conversation is supported by community-engaged practitioner, Nijah Newton-Famous. Nijah has been active in the performing arts space in Philadelphia for almost 25 years.
