PAINTED BRIDE’S SECRET SHOW SERIES GETS A SECOND SEASON AND A PAIR OF “ART DOULAS”

The Secret Show Series, Painted Bride’s “anything goes” performance series is ramping up for it’s second season, beginning in January. Every fourth Monday of the month, Secret Show invites emerging and esteemed local artists to take over the Painted Bride stage and produce the hour-long artistic experience of their dreams. The catch? The public can’t know any details until the lights go down and the curtain rises.

The Secret Show model endeavors to create exhilarating, high-quality fast theater at an affordable price. And unlike your typical performance fare, Secret Show has proven to be an spontaneous and interactive experience for its audiences. Since the series kicked off in of Spring 2015, Secret Show has seen clowning, an experimental live noise band, interactive dream journaling, and an existential choose-your-own-adventure game. Now the show is back with an exciting roster of Philly talent—as well as some familiar energy at work behind the scenes.

“We jumped at chance to work on the show,” says Phoebe Schaub who, along with Christina May, will serve as the curators, project managers, and artistic liaisons for the series. Having presented their own secret shows, Phoebe and Christina are in a unique position to take the series to its next level. Under the title “Art Doulas,” Phoebe and Christina have committed to helping the Secret Show artists bring their vision to life. “We want this to be a chance for artists who have a voice and a following to create the show of their dreams without limitations,” says Christina May. “When an artist has the freedom and resources to work, unexpected, great things happen.”
