A London-born, Harlem-based Guggenheim Fellow, Producer, Grammy-winning bassist, who continues to maintain a studio in Philadelphia, Anthony Tidd brings his supergroup Quite Sane back to Philadelphia for a long-awaited homecoming and the release of their powerful new album.

More than two decades after their groundbreaking 2002 debut The Child of Troubled Times, Quite Sane delivers a fearless follow-up, To Kill a Child of Troubled Times — a groove-charged fusion of hip-hop, jazz, and political commentary that resonates as urgently today as it did at the turn of the millennium.

Formed in late-’90s London and hailed as one of the most innovative bands of their era, Quite Sane’s debut became a cult classic. With members once split across continents, keeping the project alive proved challenging and fans have been waiting years for new music. For this performance, Tidd reimagines the ensemble with an all-American lineup including Anthony Tidd (Bass/Composition), Laurin Talese, Astrid Kralisch, Queen Jo, and Kokayi (vocals), Mark Shim (Sax), Mason Bryant (Guitar), Digba Ogunbiyi (Pianist), and Damion Reid (Drums).

This Philadelphia homecoming promises an unforgettable evening in the spirit of Tidd’s Philly Sittin’ In legacy:

  • Pre-show panel discussion moderated by J. Michael Harrison, Tidd is joined in conversation with Black scholars including Dr. Guthrie P. Ramsey, Jr., Dr. Kimmika Williams-Witherspoon, and Dr. Bruce Campbell, Jr.
  • Full-evening live performance and artist album signing
  • Afterparty vibes curated by DJ Junior (Record Breakin’ Music)

Satellite Sound amplifies jazz as a living archive of resilience, resistance, and renewal, as Anthony Tidd’s Quite Sane delivers a fearless fusion of hip-hop, funk, and progressive jazz, using groove as a catalyst for social consciousness and creative disruption.
